Overview of MagMinerals Permit Areas in the Republic of Congo

MagMinerals is the largest mineral permit holder in the Kouilou region with one mining permit: Mengo; and three exploration permits: Makola, Loango and Tchizalamou. The total area of 2056 km² is underlain by one of the world’s largest deposits of carnallite, and includes the historic Holle Potash mine site. 

Carnallite is a mineral best described as a magnesium and potassium chloride or a double salt with the nomenclature KMgCl₃ * 6H₂O.  The deposits are located in rock known as carnallitite, which consist of an interlayering of carnallite with some halite (NaCl) and minor amounts of anhydrite (CaSO₄).

Geologically, the area is located in the Congo coastal basin of Aptian age (lower Cretaceous), which extends from Equatorial Guinea in the north, to Angola in the south. The basin represents the eastern flank of the pre-Atlantic continental rift basin, which continues on the opposite coast of the South Atlantic Ocean in the Sergipe Basin, Brazil, where large potash deposits are under extraction. To the east this basin is bordered by Precambrian crystalline rocks, known as the Mayombe basement.
